As we work to make Potters Field more accessible and better cared for, there are a number of ways people can help. These include:
Help with ongoing maintenance at the cemetery: Up until this year, staff from the Dunn County Highway crew have done sporadic mowing of the cemetery. Our plan for 2014 is for volunteers to regularly mow the cemetery, and trim around the existing crosses and the two headstones. We'd like the cemetery to look as nice as other cared-for cemeteries. We'll also be exploring planting some shrubbery and perennial flowers. If you would like to help with any aspect of this, let us know through the "Contact Us" page on this website.
Help with appropriate signage and with proper grave stones for veterans: We would like to have a sign at the prime access point indicating that this is Potters Field (currently there is no signage) and perhaps a brief historical description as well. We've learned that at least six veterans--two from the Civil War and four from World War I--are buried in Potters Field. Like veterans in other cemeteries, they too deserve regular recognition for their service. Let us know if you would like to help with these aspects of improving Potters Field.
Help with additional research into complete burial lists: Some records of burials exist, but they are by no means complete. We need further review of obituaries published in local papers, and other sources as we try to gain a complete listing. If you suspect an ancestor of yours might be buried in Potters Field, we'd like to know that too.
