WELCOME
Potter's Field is located one mile east of the city limits in Menomonie, Dunn County, Wisconsin. It was the final resting place of a number of people who spent time at the Dunn County Asylum for the Chronic Insane or the Dunn County Poor Farm, or who died without resources to be buried. This site is dedicated to these pioneers of Dunn County and Menomonie, who though indigent, or ill, or just plain unlucky, still deserve an appropriate burial ground. A small group of volunteers is working to develop more convenient access to the cemetery, provide appropriate signage on site, provide more frequent mowing and care, and identify as many burials as possible for a more complete record. As you view this site, please know we welcome comment, suggestion, any pertinent information you may have about the cemetery or the people buried therein, and any other offers of help. The Friends of Potter's Field is recognized by the IRS as a 501c3 tax exempt organization, so all contributions in support of our work are tax deductible. We're grateful for such support. LOCATION AND ACCESS TO POTTERS FIELD
Potter's Field is located in the northeastern corner of the Dunn County Highway Shop yard. The entire area is within a chain link fence, and is available only during the open hours of the Highway Department, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Highway officials ask that any prospective visitor first check in with the receptionist at the Highway Department building, located just north of US Hwy 12 and Wisconsin 29, about one mile east of the city limits of Menomonie. Our Friends of Potter's Field group is working to see if there are other options for access on evenings or weekends, the time most genealogists would have available. |
